Central Floridians remember the last hurricane named Fay, and will appreciate that 2014's Hurricane Fay will pose no threat to Florida.

Though Fay briefly reached hurricane status, the storm weakened shortly after.

Discussion and 48-hour outlook

At 11 p.m., the center of Tropical Storm Fay was located near latitude 34.1 north, longitude 58.2 west. Fay is moving toward the northeast near 24 mph, and this motion is expected to continue with an additional increase in forward speed. That motion is expected continue over the open Atlantic.

Just before 5 p.m. on Sunday, Fay was classified as a Hurricane.

Maximum sustained winds decreased to 65 mph, with higher gusts. Steady weakening is expected over the next several days. Fay is expected to become a post-tropical cyclone on Monday.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 175 miles from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 988 mb, or 29.18 inches.
