Flagler Beach will need to find someone to run its city after the current city manager, Bruce Campbell, told city officials last month that he doesn't want to renew his employment contract, which ends Nov. 9.

In a letter dated Sept. 29 to Flagler Beach Mayor Linda Provencher and the City Commission, Campbell said he has "decided not to request that we negotiate a renewed contract as your city manager."

Campbell signed a three-year contract in 2011. He makes $90,000 per year.

Campbell offered to remain the city manager beyond Nov. 9 until the City Commission hires a replacement.  He also offered to remain the city manager on a "month-to-month arrangement" at his current contract salary and benefits until the hire process concludes.

"Obviously, my decision not to renew my employment contract was only reached after much thoughtful consideration," Campbell wrote in the letter. "As difficult as it has been to contemplate, it is even more difficult to write about or say out loud. However, for me personally, it is the correct outcome."

Campbell has been with Flagler Beach for four years as both acting city manager and city manager.
