Lake County's new animal services director has been fired after only 10 days on the job.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office announced her termination Friday.

Jacquelyn Johnston was fired after the sheriff's office learned Thursday that several animals in at the shelter were euthanized. That goes against sheriff's office policy of euthanizing animals as a last resort.

“This decision was made on our watch and we have taken swift action to ensure it does not happen again,” Sheriff Gary Borders said in a prepared statement.

Johnston was hired on Oct. 1.

The sheriff's office just finished a plan to take over animal services for the county, including the shelter.
