A Palm Bay homeowner is dealing with a stinky situation: skunks invaded her home. They left behind a mess that's forcing her to move out of her own bedroom.

Sheila Hathway has lived in her mobile home off Malabar road for 15 years. For the most part it's been a quiet time -- if you don't count the past two weeks of sleepless nights.

"I think it may have been the mother up here [points to ceiling] and another in the wall behind the shower," said Hathaway.

A skunk -- one of at least five -- began wandering in the piping of her walls and ceiling of her bedroom.

"I had to move everything in this bedroom, down to that bedroom, which is empty," she said.

But that didn't stop one of the skunks from finding its way down to that corner of the mobile home. Sheila said the reason for these unexpected visitors? The rain.

Brevard County has been soaked with storms and flooding as of late. Her mobile home park property is saturated.

Sheila said the skunks moved in to get dry and find food.

And once inside, they left behind droppings and stink, causing an awful, almost unbearable smell.

She decided to hire a wildlife trapper who was able to trap most of them -- but it's possible more could be lurking in the walls and eventually die.

"It's unbelievable," she said.

And she can't afford to move. So for now she has to grin, bear and 'smell' it.

Hathaway is going to try to remove the skunk smell herself, but might be forced into hiring a professional cleaning crew to remove it.
