Security is being tightened at gun stores around Flagler County after an attempted break-in.

On Monday, deputies were called to Wison Gun in Palm Coast in the early morning hours.

Surveillance video showed three people try to break the front door, but a protective coating the store owners placed on their windows prevented the glass from shattering.

The three men could then be seen running away.

Across town at HSDS Guns, Steven Nobile doesn't have any protective coating on his doors.

But he did put his store on the second story of an office complex to make it more difficult to break in.

That's just the first of his security.

“Once you get through that glass door, you've just touched the pin, the pinhead and it just gets more and more difficult from there,” Nobile said.

Because of the attempted break-in Monday, patrols have been increased at area gun shops.

A spokesman for the Sheriff's Office echoes what Nobile has seen: these cases are rare in the county.

“You go up to Jacksonville, you go to Orlando, the Tampa area, Miami, they are, there's quite a few,” Nobile said.

The break-ins have happened in Palm Coast, which means gun store owners like Nobile need to be a little extra vigilant.

“I sit here every day and I wonder, and I go 'is today the day somebody's going to try,'" said Nobile. "I come here in the morning and first thing I do when I park my car is I look up to see if the glass is broken or anything.”

The incident report states the suspects left behind a duffle bag and part of a wooden pole left behind.

The first deputy was on the scene within a minute of the Sheriff's Office being notified of the alarm.

None of the suspects could be identified, but the owners at Wilson Gun will give a copy of the video to investigators.
