Some residents in the Dr. Phillips area are upset about plans to build a Trader Joe’s in their community.

The Help us save our Dr. Phillips community group is concerned about the increased traffic a new store planned for the intersection of Sand Lake Road and Sand-Point Boulevard would bring to the area.

They are opposing a zoning change which would allow the construction of a commercial plaza where The River of Life Church on Sand Lake Road now stands. The location borders entrances to some residential neighborhoods.

The developer, Orlando-based Unicorp National Developments Inc., said the 15,500-square-foot Parkside at Dr. Philips project will be anchored by a Trader Joe’s store and include a park area. The company has an online petition for people to support the project.

The Help us save our Dr. Phillips community group will voice their concerns at the Orange County Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday afternoon.

They have also have an online petition against the development.
