The discovery of skeletal remains in Orange County has prompted the family of Tracy Ocasio, an Ocoee woman who disappeared more than four years ago, to head to the scene Friday.

The remains were not immediately identified, but Orange County deputies said all indications are that they were human bones. They could not immediately confirm if the remains were that of a male or a female.

Deputies said the remains were found by road crews around noon in a wooded area on the 8300 block of Hackney Prairie Road, off Apopka Vineland Road, just east of the Ocoee city limits.

Cadaver dogs were brought in to continue searching the area nearby, investigators said.

Tracy Ocasio's family was notified of the discovery Friday afternoon. Ocasio was last seen in May 2009, when she left a Metrowest-area bar with James Hataway.

Ocasio's family marked her 32nd birthday last month. Her father, Joe Ocasio, asked for help to keep her case in the public eye.

Oscasio's mother said she was out of town, but if the remains were identified as her daughter's, she would return.

She added there have been many incidents where they though they had found her, and then it wasn't her.

Investigators don't know for sure if there is a connection.

"We can't do that at this point. That would be irresponsible to make that connection, but obviously there is that thought process going out out there. That's why our team, our sergeant, our supervisors here from our homicide will be working closely with them to make any information available that they need should that come to pass," said Capt. Angelo Nieves, with the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Hataway has long been a person of interest in Ocasio's disappearance, but was never formally charged. He was, however, found guilty of attempted murder in an unrelated case and sentenced to life in prison in 2011.

Prosecutors said Hataway tried to kill Rachel Clarke in 2008. He was arrested on attempted murder charges in June 2009 after Clarke came forward following Ocasio's disappearance.

Hataway was also named a person of interest in the disappearance of Christopher George in February 2009. George's remains were found in Apopka in July 2011, but Hataway was not formally charged in that case, either.
