A seven-year-old boy may have uncovered a piece of history at a Marion County lake.

He and his grandfather spotted a piece of wood while scuba diving in Owens Lake.

The wood turned out to be a 20-foot-long dugout canoe.

Archaeologists believe it may be hundreds of years old.

The canoe will be donated to the Marion County Museum of History and Archaeology once it is preserved, according to a post on their Facebook page.

The preservation of the canoe could take up to a year, museum officials said, describing it as a Native American, possibly prehistoric piece.
