A Marion County woman is facing a DUI charge after deputies say she had a blood alcohol content level of .41, five times the legal limit.

Elin Marie Peterson, 33, was arrested Wednesday by deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office who responded to a report of a crash along Highway 40.

Deputies said Peterson had cans of beer with her and said she was considered an alcoholic.

“It should be noted that each time the driver/defendant spoke, the odor of an intoxicating beverage became heavier,” the arresting officer wrote in the incident report.

The officer said she had Peterson perform multiple field sobriety tests, and when given a breath test, she had a blood alcohol content level of .41 and .402.

Florida’s legal limit is .08.

Deputies said because of her high BAC level, they could not let her in the jail and took her to the hospital instead.

She was booked into Marion County Jail Thursday morning. Her bond was set at $500.
