It may be busier than usual at grocery stores today.

On Monday, food stamp recipients will not be able to use their Electronic Benefits Transfer cards.

The Florida Department of Children and Families is contracting with new vendor e-Funds to provide EBT services.

The switch is expected to save the state $21 million over the next three years.

But in order to make the final switch, EBT cards won’t work starting at midnight.

There is some misinformation out there about the switch.

Benefits for food stamp recipients will not change. Also, people will be able to use their EBT cards as soon as the transition is complete, which should be sometime Monday evening.

"I'm probably going to be frustrated and mad that I can't use it, but it's only for a few hours, until they update their system, I'll be OK, as long as it's only one day," said Cathy Astarita.

In the meantime, DCF is urging people to make their purchases Sunday to avoid frustrations Monday because this is a system-wide shutdown.
