A 17-year-old boy was shot to death on his way to a bus stop Wednesday morning, and Kissimmee police said the shooter remains on the loose.

Witnesses stopped to help David Guerrero after he was shot around 6 a.m., as the teen was walking near Central Avenue, across from the Kissimmee Surgery Center.

David's family told police he was planning to take a bus to work.

A man parked across the street, waiting for the surgery center to open, called 911. He said he saw a car go by, heard a gunshot, and then saw Guerrero on the ground.

"We don't know anything at this point," Kissimmee Police spokeswoman Stacie Miller said Wednesday afternoon. "We don't even know if this car was part of the equation."

Guerrero was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The teen's neighbors, including Milagros Quinones, said they were shocked.

"It surprised me, because I've never seen anything like that, you know, around here, I mean," Quinones said.

Police have asked the public for help.

"We want to find out who did this, and we want to bring some closure to this family, who is devastated that they've lost a young member of their family," said Miller. "So, we are working our knuckles to the bone just trying to find out who did this."
