A Lake County deputy had to take down an alligator on the campus of Clermont Middle School as students were being let out for the day.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office said Deputy Jessica McGregor wrestled the gator Tuesday on the school's campus.

McGregor said there wasn't time to wait for the trapper to get there. She was concerned the 7-foot gator would get close to the students.

"Got him to work around a little bit, wore him out, get him tired, so he wasn't so much to handle," McGregor said. "And then once he was good and tired, I walked up behind him and dropped down on his back, pushed his head down, so I could get his mouth taped up. So he couldn't bite."

And yes, that is University of Florida gator tape she used.

McGregor is the school resource deputy assigned to Clermont Middle School, according to the Sheriff's Office website.

A spokesman for the sheriff's office said McGregor has been with the agency since 2007.

No injuries were reported.

Wildlife officials took the gator away.
