The family of an autistic boy will get the keep the chickens that help the boy, after a vote Wednesday night in DeBary.

JJ Hart's family has several chickens, which they say help him with his autism. They say the three-year-old boy comes out of his shell around the birds, and his social and verbal skills have improved.

The city did create a pilot program, but it ended earlier this month. The family then threatened to sue to keep the chickens under three federal provisions.

The city then said it would make accomodations for the chickens.
