The search is over for a driver accused of hitting and killing a couple on the Florida Turnpike.

Florida Highway Patrol investigators said the semi driver, 68-year-old Robert Bates of Sanford, met with them Thursday in Vero Beach.

Troopers said Bates told them where they could find his damaged semi, and that it was somewhere in Central Florida.

However, Bates was not arrested.

Troopers said the semi-truck hit and killed the hearing-impaired couple near Port St. Lucie Monday night, and drove away.

Investigators said the victims, 19-year-old Mariah King and 24-year-old Vincent Matthews, were killed after pulled over to change a tire while driving home to Lakeland.

Troopers said charges in the case are pending.
