Clermont City Manager Wayne Saunders says he is committed to making a seamless transition for the next city manager in his final months in office.

Saunders said he was cornered into a retirement proposal, but is not ready to retire. He said he will likely pursue a position with another city or in the private sector if it is available when he steps down at the end of the year. He said he is most proud of overseeing the city during a decade of vast expansion in the 2000s, helping it grow and providing utilities and services without putting the city in a position of debt, which proved to be important when the recession hit a few years ago.

He is not sure what role disgruntled ex-employees and police officers played in his forced retirement, and had no comment on whether he might make changes at the police department while still in office.
