Two adults and two children were treated for smoke inhalation overnight in an apartment fire in Lake Wales.

According to Polk County Fire Rescue, the fire broke out just after 1 a.m. at the Carillon Place Apartments just off Burns Avenue.

Officials said the people made it out of one of the units, but were taken to an area hospital. They are expected to be OK.

The fire was contained to one building that has eight units. At least one of those units was destroyed as its balcony was charred in the fire and the roof and interior were gutted. Officials said just two of the eight units was occupied.

Several other units sustained water damage.

According to officials, the building sustained extensive roof damage as well.

Authorities have not said what caused the fire, but did say the fire does not appear to be suspicious.

The State Fire Marshal is expected back at the scene later on Tuesday.
