An 11-year-old Pasco County boy is spending his Fourth of July giving hope to the homeless.

He and his family set up a lemonade stand in their driveway Saturday on Kaffir Lily Court to raise money for those in need.

Jackson Costa decided he wanted to help the homeless after he saw a video of someone giving a homeless man a $1,000 lottery ticket.

"That really inspired me to do something for a homeless woman or somebody homeless,” Jackson Costa said.

“So he says, ‘Mom, I’ve got to do something. I am so blessed and I want someone else to feel blessed,’” Jackson’s mom, Jodi Costa, said.

Jackson originally had his sights set on helping one homeless person, but his family decided to expand his mission and work with Metropolitan Ministries to donate to a family in need.

"I think it’s going to give them a second chance so they can restart their life,” Jackson said.

The Costa’s have already raised $350 through a GoFundMe account and they have a goal of reaching $1,000 with the lemonade stand.

Neighbors said they aren’t surprised to see the Costas spending their holiday helping others.

"They, just within our own neighborhood, are very giving people,” neighbor TJ Martin said.

Martin said he hopes his kids will learn from their example.

"So now it’s time to tell them the story of exactly why they are getting the lemonade,” Martin said.

Jackson said he can’t wait to deliver what he’s raised to those in need.

“It makes me feel wonderful,” Jackson said.
