Hundreds of rowing teams took to the water Saturday during the Halifax Summer Regatta.

The teams competed on the Halifax River through downtown Daytona Beach.

As many as 31 teams from across the nation with almost 500 rowers competed in the 19th annual summer regatta. The unique boats can cost as much as $60,000.

"Our regatta is the final of the spring season," said Sami Bay with the Halifax Rowing Association. "The sprint season are the shorter course, racing a thousand meters."

Crowds gathered on the Orange Avenue Bridge and on the river's edge to watch the competition.

The event crowned champions in categories from youth to seniors, males and females, racing in 2- to 8-man sculls.
