Saturday afternoon the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office arrested one of their own after 38-year-old Osceola County Deputy Sheriff Jason Sigma was caught buying prescription pain medication.

Late Saturday afternoon investigators were approached by one of their informants who told them that Deputy Sigma asked for drugs.

Acting fast they wired the informant with a transmitter, and according to the arrest report, detectives listened in as Sigma paid the informant $40 for 20 oxycodone pills.

“He was arrested, taken to the sheriff’s office he was processed and interviewed. During that time he did cooperate with the investigation. Based on the evidence and his statement he was charged with trafficking in oxycodone,” Twis Lizasuain with the sheriff’s office said.

Sigma has worked for the sheriff’s office for just over seven years. News 13 found out he was removed from duty immediately without pay. The sheriff’s office is going through the process of terminating him right now.

After Sigma’s arrest, Osceola County Sheriff Bob Hansel released this statement saying:

“We do not tolerate any criminal activity regardless of who breaks the law. When these allegations were brought to our attention, we acted quickly and the investigation resulted in this arrest. The Sheriff's Office works hard to establish trust in the community and we will not allow anyone to compromise that trust.”

Due to the amount of pills Deputy Sigman purchased, it’s considered drug trafficking and he could face the minimum sentence for trafficking, which is three years in prison. He was locked up in the Osceola County Jail, but was released on $50,000 bond.
