PETA is offering $2,500 in the case of five sea turtle nests that were run over on Holmes Beach Saturday night.

Officials say a man and a woman ran over five roped-off sea turtle nests while driving an ATV on the beach near 30th Avenue on Holmes Beach Saturday night. In the process, officials say they also ran over and killed two black skimmer chicks and injured one other.

They say they aren’t sure how many sea turtle eggs may have been damaged or destroyed because they’re not due to hatch until the fall.

“By targeting and killing defenseless protected animals in an egregiously cruel act, these heartless individuals also broke the law,” says PETA Senior Director Colleen O’Brien.

If you have any information about this case and are interested in any reward, you’re asked to contact the Holmes Beach Police Department at 941-708-5807 or the Bradenton Beach Police Department at 941-778-6411.
