The Florida panther kitten rescued earlier this year near Naples now has a new home.

The cub is now living at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. When he was a week old, he was found dehydrated and non-responsive in the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge.

Biologists took him to receive emergency care at the Animal Specialty Hospital in Naples, then transferred him to Lowry Park Zoo.

Since then, biologists say he has grown stronger and has been weaned from his bottle. The cub now weighs 11.5 pounds.

Experts thought the park would be the best fit for him because he had imprinted on humans and had no mother to teach him how to survive in the wild.  In addition, the park staff has experience working with Florida panthers.

Visitors will be able to see the kitten at the park's Felburn Wildlife Care Center between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.  Officials said that as he gets older, he will eventually be introduced into the larger outdoor habitat.

The little panther is set to get a new name on April 19 during the Earth Day celebration.
