A 39-year-old Tampa man was arrested early Wednesday for driving in the wrong direction on Interstate 275.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Trooper Dennis Rich received a call about a wrong-way driver on southbound I-275 near Bearss Avenue just before 3 a.m.
When he responded to the scene moments later, he encountered a BMW SUV traveling the wrong way in the inside lane, authorities said. The wrong-way driver stopped and pulled over.
Trooper Rich said the driver of the BMW, Nicolas Murcia, appeared and acted heavily intoxicated. Murcia failed field sobriety exercises and was arrested for DUI.
Murcia, who refused to provide a breath sample, was taken to the Hillsborough County Jail.
There were no crashes or injuries in the incident.
