Singing in his family's heavy metal band is all 11-year-old Falcon Heene likes to think about these days.

Falcon is back in the spotlight, five years after grabbing the nation's attention.

It was 2009 and Falcon was known as "Balloon Boy."

"Back then, I was like, ‘what the heck is going on?'," Falcon said.

When Falcon was 6 years old, the family claimed he flew away in his dad's giant homemade weather balloon in Fort Collins, Colo. Later, Falcon was found hiding at their home.

Authorities said it was all a hoax.

Falcon's dad still says otherwise.

"That was never a hoax," Richard Heene said. "Absolutely not."

The family moved to Florida in 2011 to have a fresh start.

Today, the family continues to pay back authorities for that massive search for Falcon. But they're trying to move forward.

They live in Spring Hill now and the three brothers have formed a band named "The Heene Boyz." Falcon is the lead singer.

"The positive thing that happened is that it brought our family really tight," Richard Heene said.

Five years later, Falcon admitted he and his brothers still get looks while performing on the road.

"They'll recognize us and I'll be like, 'dude you seriously remember that?'" said Bradford Heene, Falcon's older brother.

"Probably two out of 10, somebody recognizes me and says you're that kid and now you're in the metal band. Sweet," Falcon said.

The family is just hoping that sort of recognition will help others remember their music as well.

The band will perform Saturday at the Daytona Beach Biketoberfest at 11:30 a.m.
