An elderly driver and his wife suffered minor injuries today when their car crashed into a Tampa house, authorities said.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, a car went off a road near Shandwick Court in the Town 'n Country area of Tampa, traveled about 100 yards and crashed into a fence and then a back room of a residence.

Authorities said there were people in side the home at the time of the incident, but they were not injured. Fire Rescue crews evaluated the home for structural damage, and Hillsborough County code enforcement officers examined the property as well.

However, the driver of the 1999 Mercury sedan, Angus McArthur of Tampa, 82, suffered minor injuries. His wife, Charlotte, 86, was injured due to the air bag deploying. Both were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital for observation.

The crash, which happened near Waters Avenue and Redbraes Drive, remains under investigation.

Approximately $5,000 worth of damage occurred to the house and fence. Officials said Code Enforcement workers and Red Cross volunteers were assisting the homeowners.
